The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Yusuf Adamu Ali, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday, September 4, 2026.
According to the statement, the seven POS operators separately reported the matter at the ‘A’ Divisional Headquarters in Damaturu, alleging that Daniel visited their businesses on different occasions and profiled their accounts under the pretext of helping them secure loans.
The operators alleged that the suspect subsequently obtained loans through their accounts without their knowledge or consent.
“Upon receipt of the report, detectives of the Division immediately commenced investigation, traced and arrested the suspect along with one vehicle suspected to have been obtained from the proceeds of the crime,” the statement said.
The police said preliminary investigation indicated that the total amount involved was about ₦74 million.
The command added that Daniel allegedly confessed to the offence during interrogation, while investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the transactions and determine whether other individuals were involved.
The Commissioner of Police in Yobe State, CP Usman Kanfani Jibrin, urged members of the public to exercise caution when sharing access to their bank and digital financial accounts.
He also advised residents to promptly report suspicious transactions to the police.
